Ernest McKenzie was talking to a friend on the telephone one evening five years ago when several city police officers entered his home. They believed they were entitled to search the premises because McKenzie's roommate, whose vehicle police had stopped earlier, had allegedly breached the conditions of his release on bail.

Former swimmer jailed for trailer park shooting

Court heard Piasecki was prohibited from possessing weapons at the time as a result of an earlier drug trafficking conviction in Fort McMurray where he got two years. Defence lawyer Rod Gregory told court Piasecki and his younger brother were competitive swimmers and the brother had once won a provincial championship.

Gregory said Piasecki started seriously working out after his release from prison and began injecting steroids
